boat Details
The ice-strengthened vessel Plancius was originally built in 1976 as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Dutch Navy, and was completely rebuilt as a 108-passenger vessel in 2009. She has large open deck spaces (with full walk-around possibilities on Deck 4), offering excellent opportunities to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. There is a restaurant/lecture room on Deck 3 and a spacious observation lounge (with bar) on Deck 5 with large windows, offering a full panoramic view. The 53 cabins are comfortable and nicely decorated, but keep in mind this is not a luxury vessel, and the prime goal is to spend as much time ashore as possible. The Plancius is equipped with 10 Mark V Zodiacs and complies with the latest SOLAS-regulations (Safety Of Life At Sea). She flies the Dutch flag, and is an excellent vessel for polar expedition cruises in the Arctic and Antarctica.
