Europe Trip Leader

Con Moriarty

Con Moriarty grew up in one of the world's very special places, amid the wild peaks of the McGillycuddy Reeks and Killarney Valley of Ireland's County Kerry. From an early age, Con has been awake to the spirit of this magical place, its shape and nature combining with its Gaelic culture and spiritual history to weave a rich tapestry of influence. Throughout his life, the intriguing story of Ireland and its people has been a passion for Con, and sharing this with travelers is a privilege he is grateful for. Traveling with Con and his friends in Ireland is truly a learning adventure, walking and experiencing the "hidden Ireland." Con has traveled and climbed throughout the world, extensively in the mountain environments of Scotland, the European Alps, the US, Nepal, Kenya, Irian Jaya, Australia, Patagonia, and New Zealand.

Is there a better rating than Excellent? If so, that's our rating. Con is so full of life I sometimes feel guilty that he has to watch over us instead of following all of his own dreams and interests. Having said that, I know he loves to envelop his guests in the magic that is Ireland. We're the richer for it.

Kathy L.

Burlington, CT
Ireland: The Wild Atlantic Way

One would have to have a heart of stone to resist falling in love with Ireland when Con is the Matchmaker. He speaks of his beloved Ireland as one would of a long-loved companion...whispering his admiration of the physical beauty, pointing out the history and difficulties that have formed the complicated yet spellbinding personality, bragging on its many accomplishments, and, sometimes, becoming exasperated with its political choices. His skill as a trip leader/event planner/host are second to none. He was as likely to find the best scone in town as he was to find an overlooked relic in the fields. I'm pretty sure he has some other- worldly connection that parted the clouds and calmed the seas so that we could experience the wonder of Skelling Michael and Great Blasket Island. Con was friends with every person in every hamlet in every area we visited. I feel privileged to have participated in his world if only for a week.

The trip was excellent, but Con was what made this trip the memory of a lifetime. There are few times in one's life where you meet someone who can so profoundly affect you and this was one of them. Might we rate Con beyond excellent? Con has a singularly unique ability to form deep relationships with people, interest them in the history and culture of Ireland, and leave them with an attachment that survives the trip, the next trip, and becomes a relationship that endures for years. He is, by far, the best guide I've experienced and I deeply value the exchanges and friendship that has arisen. Con brings the most interesting and insightful people into his tours.
